Research Fields: Contemporary Ceramics, Conceptual Art, Performance, Firing Techniques, Mixed Media, Raku, Saggar, Copper Mat, Paper Kiln, Paper Kiln.

She graduated from Hacettepe University (HU) FFA Department of Ceramics in 1992. She completed her MA in 1997. She lived in Milan between 1999 and 2003 and continued her studies in Gioella Suardi's studio in Bergamo. She completed her Ph.D. in 2009. Başkaya has had 9 solo exhibitions and received 15 national or international awards. She arranged Raku, Paper Kiln and Egyptian Paste Workshops many times in Turkey and in abroad. She is board of directors of Turkish Ceramic Society and she is art editor of Seramik Turkiye Magazine.

Başkaya, a founder member ofInternational CeramicArtist Association in China and she is member of International Academy of Ceramics -in Geneva, Switzerland (Unesco)

She is coordinator of International Macsabal Woodfiring Symposiums in Korea, China and Turkey.In 2016 she has curated for Turkish Museum, Ukrainean Museum and Croatian Artsist Residence Program at FLICAM Museum in Fuping, Xian, China. Başkaya has been working at HU FFA Department of Ceramics and Glass since 1994 and she is currently the head of the department.
